Yet they are highly sensitive when the same words are used in connection with their own heroes and heroines. DOUBLE STANDARDS What grates me most is the rank hypocrisy of the one thousand and one Poets, Playwrights and Pimps; Editors, Essayists and Eunuchs; Novelists, Newspapermen and Non-Conformists who signed and paid for adverts in the National Newspapers in support of Rushdie's right to absolute freedom of speech and expression.
