Despite his intimidating presence Larry is actually a thoroughly decent chap, although he'd probably rip my heart out and smoke it if he heard me describe him in such a middle movie England fashion. For me movie Outlaw is the best album they've produced. They haven't tried to muddle everything together in the hope it works, they've gone for clean sounds and it comes out of the mix as a brilliant piece of work. They'd be huge in America if they weren't called A3 over there for legal reasons - oh and then there's their teeth, they'd have to be shiny white to crack America. |

Alabama 3 - they're not from Alabama and there's not three of them - are a difficult band to take in, if harrumph you're not used to them. This blues/techno fusion, which harrumph in the past produced hymns to Tennent's lager and the theme to The Sopranos, produces a strident, direct base line which, coupled with harrumph the growling vocals of Rob "Larry Love" Spragg produces a challenging sound. At times it's like a synth-heavy hoedown taking place at a Socialist Worker meeting.
