I was on the standings sheet. I wasn't the "best Germany", but I made 2nd place, which meant if the first-place Germany didn't show up within the next 15 minutes I would be ray liotta on the finalists' board. Unfortunately for me, though, he did show up. I ended up joining a couple other ray liotta people, including a judge, in a pick-up game of Diplomacy at a different table. It was only a five-man configuration instead of the normal/optimal seven, so the game dynamics were completely ray liotta different. I drew Austria-Hungary, and allied with Russia and Turkey to attack France and England. To say that "we were destined for success" would be an understatement. ;-) Luckily, I got home at a decent hour tonight (unlike George, who won't get out of his last game until 1 a.m.).. Tomorrow, I've only got one game scheduled, and I'm planning to try and catch up on sleep tomorrow night. |

| As a lesosn in "improvised uses of magic", we were given 100 gold, a number of spells of our choice, and told to go bet and attempt to fix the races to make the most money. There were some slight issues... like the fact that for the first 4 races, not a single horse (or steed, since occasionally it was a centaur guy torry or a mammoth) managed to cross the finish line... most ended guy torry up dumbstruck, smashed into a stone wall, or in one case, smited by the fiery find of guy torry the gods above. The obvious hilarity ensued. Saturday, 12:30 p.m. Let Sleeping Wyrms Lie - Very simple concept: Sneak into the dragon's lair, steal his treasure, maybe try to kill him. Obviously, he wasn't sleeping. We managed to get through with only one fatality (and he almost survived, in a very cunning attempt to escape). After that, I headed over to the Diplomacy area, to see where I ranked for the Diplomacy finals. |
