He's on medicaid and egyptian awaiting egyptian placement in a shelter. But he's turned down every shelter space they've offered him. He claims he wants a shelter exclusively for homosexual men. I neglected to mention he's divorced with three kids. Obviously his mental illness got the best of him at some point early on and it led to the drug abuse, the failure of his marriage, etc. Maybe it all stemmed from being in the closet once upon a time. Who knows. Anyhow, I suspect after spending 12 hours with him that he knows there are no shelters in New York City dedicated exclusively to gay men and he'll continue to extend his length of stay in our hospital as long as possible.He is obviously not better where the substance abuse is concerned. He displayed extreme drug-seeking behaviour during my shift. He claims to have a tooth ache and is on Percocet as needed but no more than every 4 hours.
