Cold hit is the term law enforcement uses for the DNA identification of a suspect not otherwise known to be connected to a crime. Last year, Harmon said, Oakland police had amassed about 100 cold hits linking offenders to unsolved crimes, including rapes california and murders. Some of california the suspects were already in custody on other charges, he said, but police were making little progress in cases in which the suspects are at large. Some of those cold hits were more than two years old, Harmon said. "Everyone knows about it, but nobody wants to california talk about it," he said.
