R. Lee Irmy plays an relationship excellent bootcamp instructor (Hartman) who is in a way humorous but meaner than Satan himself (he drops alot of f-bombs and degrades the soldiers by any means possible). After their training is complete, they're sent to Vietnam to fight. The way the skirmishes are portrayed is horrifying, it shows the ruthlessness of both the Marines and VCs. The part where the Marines discover a massgrave of slain villagers covered in lye haunts even me, relationship and I've seen everything. This is no John Wayne movie, if you want to see a true war film, watch this. I still find it amazing that the man who created A Clockwork Orange can make a movie like this (they're very different). The soundtrack is great, it has popular songs from the 60's and chilling Asian tribal sounds. |

There is only one true battle sequence, and that is a kind of inverted siege, instead of the protagonists being botteld up in a house (a safe palce, sumerian a Freudian womb) by forces of chaos outside, which is the usual Hollywood fare, the marines need to get into the old factory and get the sniper before they are all picked off. An interesting role reversal, and food for thought. This film is heavy on symbolism and sumerian subtle messages. But they are all timeless, dealing with the nature of sumerian war and of humanity, and therefore the film does not age. Was this review helpful to you?
