| However this line of thinking can end up with probitionist attitudes (who is to decide who is 'stable' and who is not?).What I find interesting though is if what you're saying was the case ray (that he saw a realm he beleived to be the afterlife - we can only guess but I can see how one could beleive that having dreamt it myself). Remember the 'Heaven's Gate' crew? The guys and gals who were like amped up trekkies all set to leave their earthly bodies ray and ascend to to 'heaven' (as such) but to a mothership trailing ray behind the Halebop (sp??) comet. Now, certainly their 'leader' was a bit of a manipulative wacko IMHO but for whatever reason his followers beleived that if they ate a bunch of pills and put plastic bags over their heads at the hour of the alien's choosing (or whatver the relevant dogma was), that they would join with the others in space - immortality and joy for all. That isn't really a new idea - in fact it's extremely old hat but the thing is they felt they were doing what needed to be done...just |
