Ukrainian nationalist militia which had sided with the Nazis, switched sides in 1945, and continued to fight the Soviet army. They were supplied, financed and in some cases trained, by American intelligence. Eventually they were cornered and exterminated in 1953 in a pitched battle in which 30,00 died in a single day.
