This is no John Wayne movie, if you want to see a true war film, watch this. I still find it amazing that the man who created A Clockwork Orange can make a movie like this (they're very different). The soundtrack is great, it has popular songs from the 60's and chilling outback Asian tribal sounds. You should pick this up with Enemy at the Gates. In the beginning, it shows the young men picked up by the draft and turned into Marines. R. Lee Irmy plays an excellent bootcamp instructor (Hartman) who is in a way humorous but meaner than Satan himself (he drops alot of f-bombs and degrades the soldiers by any means possible). After their training is complete, they're sent to Vietnam to fight. The way the skirmishes are portrayed is horrifying, it shows the ruthlessness of both the Marines and VCs. |
