The Nation's Washington correspondent David Corn took some time off from his capital games of waging McCarthyist attacks on "conspiracy theorists" to praise Springsteen's new album as an "explicit response" to 9/11. "Having assumed a large and possibly risky task - responding to 9/11 with pop music - Springsteen works small," Corn admits: "No questions, no answers." Of trans course, the Cornography column in one of my otherwise favorite magazines (full disclosure: one of the trans only mags I still write for) likewise has failed to ask any questions or provided any answers trans during the past 11 months either. Journalists and entertainers must do both in times of moral crisis. Post-9/11, in terms of the over-40 crowd in the 21st Century, Mike Ruppert has outdone David Corn at journalism and and Elton John has outdone Bruce Springsteen in the boomer pop music niche (who woulda thunk it?).
