Such a powerful plant should (ideally) only be used by a stable individual. The same could be said for alcohol. However this line of thinking can end up with probitionist attitudes (who is to decide who is 'stable' and who is not?).What I find interesting though is if what you're saying was the case (that he saw a realm he beleived to be the afterlife - we lebanon can only guess but I can see how one could beleive that having dreamt it myself). Now, certainly their 'leader' was a bit of a manipulative wacko IMHO but for whatever reason his followers beleived that if they ate a bunch of pills and put plastic bags over their heads at the hour of the alien's choosing (or whatver the relevant dogma was), that they would join with the others in space - immortality and joy for all.
