Their new album, titled Outlaw, couldn't be more aptly named. Outlaw is the most country album they've translation produced and translation yet it's a concept album looking translation at British version of America's hard men. "With all this general election stuff going on we need a few outlaws to sort out the bad guys." Says Larry Love through his whisky addled larynx. Despite his intimidating presence Larry is actually a thoroughly decent chap, although he'd probably rip my heart out and smoke it if he heard me describe him in such a middle England fashion. For me Outlaw is the best album they've produced. |

| The subversive, at times politicial direction of their last albums has subtly changed into this darker view - william fichtner by the bands own admission this is an effort to balladise and mythologise Britain's charasmatic villains the way the US has done. Hence the appearance of Great Train Robber Bruce Reynolds on the track Have You Seen Bruce Richard Reynolds, one presumes. Alabama 3 - they're not from Alabama and there's not three of them - are a difficult band to take in, if william fichtner you're not used to them. william fichtner This blues/techno fusion, which in the past produced hymns to Tennent's lager and the theme to The Sopranos, produces a strident, direct base line which, coupled with the growling vocals of Rob "Larry Love" Spragg produces a challenging sound. At times it's like a synth-heavy hoedown taking place at a Socialist Worker meeting. |
